People come with their questions and the agenda is set by attendees. Audience is broad - parents, students, non-profit sector, business community - anyone with an interest in education is welcome. No keynote. No “workshop leaders”. First planning meeting - end of May? Videographer would be great. (Michelle Horst -- I may be able to arrange one at no cost. I’ll let you know!) Provocateurs would be very effective.
#1: Location, location, location? pls add suggestions? -approx 100 - 150 ppl, wireless, roomy & break-out space, food, parking -McMaster Innovation Park? - I have a cnxn at MAC (Brother in Law - who may be helpful Kenneth Moyle) -Mohawk College? -Is Brock Hamilton Campus a possibility? →> YES...this is a possibility (zoe will arrange with Camille) NO COST? INFRASTRUCTURE IS THERE. -What about looking at a rental at a school for the weekend? (Not sure about space or cost.) I think this is great - with school connection, rental is usually very inexpensive (community connections). - likely the cost of custodial time - high school setting is used to handling wireless too (@kawilson 68)miai
I know Dundas Central was rented for a birthday party last year...really cheap.. so you would have your low cost and wireless Will it support 150 ppl on wireless at same time? -We want to make it as cheap as possible, but still have wireless. Desirable to make EdCamp a zero cost event to participants.
#2: When? Let’s get a date - pls add and we will build consensus -November 2012? -- When do we get started on our first set of report cards? Isn’t it around now? Would it be better to look at the end of October, or is this too early? Don’t want to conflict with edcampto.
- Should be AFTER ECOO (October 24th, 25th, 26th) - and we can use that conference to promote it. - Also, as of May 1st, EdCampOttawa is listing October 27th as their date. either early October or January
ONCE we have #1 & #2 determined - we can begin marketing, promoting and decide on registration & more! Registration should be free. Absolutely! FEBRUARY 9th is the DATE
#3 Sponsorship - SMARTPEN Central has agreed to be sponsorship (same as what they did in the WRDSB). - Consider asking Robert Martellacci at MindShareLearning for sponsor support. - Hotel sponsorship for out of town participants? - HWDSB may sponsor - unions? Other associations? Principals?.boar
